Welcome to the home of
Sounds Vantastic Mobile DJ.
My name is
Mark van Deventer and I hope to be
your DJ at your next function.
I started spinning records when I was 15 (in 1975), at my friends’ parties! I was the one with the best collection of music, so — with the family stereo, an extra turntable, and a toggle switch for a mixer — I played music for $10 a night… and I loved it!
Soon the family stereo was replaced with a "custom" stereo, a real fader and a microphone. Back in ‘75 we built everything ourselves, and there was a genuine sense of achievement when it all came together and worked. My brother, Peter, was the electronics whiz: he built our first 100-watt amp and our light controllers. My father and I built the speaker cabinets.
I have no idea how many LP's and 45's we used to carry around ... but it was a lot. Vinyl was heavy and took up a lot of space, and we were always worried about scratching them… but we could never decide which records to leave at home.
In the 90's, vinyl was being replaced by CD's. This was great for DJ’s: CD’s were smaller and lighter, easier to care for and transport. As our LP's wore out, they were replaced by CD’s.
And now, in 2005, the CD's are being replaced by MP3's. In fact, most of my collection is now on MP3's.
I look at my system now — around 15,000 watts, computer-control, and over
100,000 songs on our hard drives — and I realize how far we’ve come with technology. We’ve even added Karaoke! Our library is growing constantly, so you can ask for any music you want!
But the basics remain the same - we still love what we do, we have a great time, and make sure that the crowd does too.
And for us, setting the musical mood is still a family business: my daughters Jaime and Melissa are DJ’s too. Between the 3 of us, we’ll guarantee that you and your guests hear the music that will make your event “sing”!
